A go-to weeknight taco recipe! A splash of beer adds depth to the turkey, while our new taco seasoning – featuring chiles and tomato powder – brings subtle heat and savory richness. Also great with chicken, beef, or tofu.

Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 lb ground lean turkey

  • 1 medium tomato, diced
  • ½ medium onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, chopped
  • 2 tablespoons Taco Seasoning
  • ⅔ cup light beer or chicken broth

  • Salt to taste

blank

  • 8 corn tortillas
  • ⅓ cup cotija cheese
  • pico de gallo or salsa

  • diced avocado

  • fresh cilantro

Directions

  1. Heat the oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Brown the turkey, breaking it into smaller pieces as it cooks.

  2. When the meat is no longer pink, add the tomato, onion, and garlic. Cook for 6 to 8 minutes, until the tomato begins to break down and the onion softens.

  3. Add the Oaktown Spice Shop Taco Seasoning. Cook for an additional 2 to 3 minutes until fragrant.
  4. Pour in the beer, and reduce heat to low. Cover, and simmer for 15 minutes, or until the sauce reduces.  If the mixture is still liquidy, remove the lid and simmer for an additional 5 to 10 minutes to let the excess liquid evaporate. Taste and add salt as needed.
  5. While the turkey is cooking, char the corn tortillas. Use tongs to hold the tortilla over a gas-grill flame (or over a BBQ), letting it char for 45-60 seconds per side. (You can also warm the tortillas in a skillet or in the oven.)

  6. Serve the turkey with corn tortillas, diced avocado, cotija cheese, and salsa.
