Ever wonder how those pizza flavored snacks pack so much zesty flavor into a dry chip or cracker? The main answer is Tomato Powder! Consisting purely of dried tomato, this ingredient lets dry spice rubs and mixes have that unique flavor typically found in sauces or soups.
In this recipe, crispy crunchy bread cubes come to life with the savory umami notes of Tomato Powder and Parmesan cheese, along with the herbaceous zip of Erbe Italiane di Lusso. Fantastic in a Caesar salad or as a stand alone snack, these pizza inspired croutons are sure to be a hit!
½ a loaf (12oz) of white bread cut into ½”-¾” cubes
½ cup extra virgin olive oil
2 tablespoons Oaktown Spice Shop Erbe Italiane di Lusso
½ cup finely grated Parmesan or Pecorino cheese
¾ teaspoons kosher style salt, such as Pacific Flake Sea Salt
Freshly ground black pepper, such as Tellicherry Peppercorns
2 tablespoons Tomato Powder
Preheat the oven to 325F.
Any white bread on hand can work for this recipe, including French or sourdough.
