Inspired by a standout cocktail at Oakland's North Light, this is a drink that rewards a little patience. Earl Grey and a touch of Madagascar vanilla steep overnight in bourbon, coaxing out something floral and warm before a drop of anything else touches the glass. From there, fresh lemon, sweet peach and a hint of brown sugar add a bright and summery glow. Sophisticated enough for a dinner party, easy enough to make a pitcher of and not feel bad about it.
2 tablespoons loose leaf Earl Grey Tea
1/2 teaspoon Madagascar Vanilla Powder (optional, but very delicious)
3 oz infused bourbon
½ tablespoon brown sugar, or to taste
5 oz peach juice, such as Simply Peach or Trader Joe's Country Peach
In an airtight jar or bottle, stir together bourbon, tea, and vanilla powder if using. Infuse for at least 4 hours or overnight, shaking every so often to reinvigorate the spices. Strain into a clean container.
Combine all cocktail ingredients in a shaker full of ice. Shake vigorously for 30 seconds, then strain into two coupe glasses.
