It’s holiday season, and before you whip up (or pick up!) a dinner roll for the table, consider making a knotted garlic roll, seasoned with Italian spices, and brushed with garlic butter.
Prep the dough the day before, and let rise in the fridge overnight for a no fuss side that will fly off the table. Our favorite? Leftover garlic knots with eggs the next morning!
Ingredients
- 3 cups all purpose flour
- 1 package instant yeast (2 ¼ teaspoons)
- 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
-
1 teaspoon Oaktown Spice Shop Erbe Italiane Di Lusso
- ½ teaspoon garlic powder
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 1 cup warm water
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 large egg
- 5 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
- 4 cloves garlic, finely chopped
-
2 teaspoons Oaktown Spice Shop Erbe Italiane Di Lusso
- ¼ teaspoon salt
Herbed Garlic Butter
Directions
- In the bowl of a stand mixer, combine the flour, yeast, sugar, Erbe Italiane Di Lusso, garlic powder, and salt.
- Attach the dough hook on the stand mixer, and add the water, olive oil, and egg. Knead for 4-5 minutes, until a smooth dough forms.
- Cover with a damp, clean kitchen towel, and let rise in a warm place for 1 hour, or until doubled. Line two large baking trays with parchment paper.
- Once the dough has doubled, transfer to a lightly floured surface. Divide into 12 small pieces. Roll each piece into an 8-inch rope, and tie into a knot. Place on the lined baking trays.
- Cover the knots with a clean kitchen towel, and let rise for 30-45 minutes.
- Meanwhile, preheat the oven to 400F. Combine the melted butter, garlic, remaining Erbe Italiane Di Lusso, and salt in a bowl.
- Use a pastry brush to generously brush the butter mixture onto the knots. Reserve half of the mixture.
- Bake for 18-20 minutes, or until golden brown. Brush with the remaining butter mixture.
