FAQ (Updated Jan 2021)

We are currently open to the public for at-the-door, deli counter-style service. We are also fulfilling orders online for front door pickup and shipping. We are not currently open for in-store shopping or browsing.


How do I purchase spices in person?

Please come to the Oakland and Albany locations between 10am-5pm and let us know what you’d like to order (we’d love you to come with your list!) and we’ll ring you up with a contactless credit card transaction. Our Castro Valley location is open daily 9am-7pm. Due to COVID concerns, we cannot accept cash. 


How do I place an order for pickup?

After you have made your selections and added them to your cart, select “Store Pickup” and choose either Oakland, Albany or Castro Valley. Then, select your pickup day and complete your payment. Orders placed by 5pm will be ready for pickup the next day by noon.

How do I pick up my order when it's ready?

Please come at your schedule day and time, or anytime after you receive an email that your order is ready. Our Oakland and Albany shops are open from 10am-5pm, and our Castro Valley location is open daily 9am-7pm. Come to the front door, let us know the first and last name of the person who placed the order and order number, and we will bring your order out to you. For everyone's safety, we require face coverings to be worn and ask those with symptoms of respiratory illness or fever to refrain from picking up orders. If there's a line, please use the markers on the sidewalk to line up at a safe distance from one another. Thanks!

I forgot something. Can I add to my order?

If you would like to order additional spices, you can either place another pickup order online or purchase additional items at the time of pickup with a credit card.

What if I miss my scheduled pick up date?

Please come another day to pick up. We are open daily from 10am-5pm in Oakland and Albany. Our Castro Valley location is open daily 9am-7pm.

Is everything at the shop also available online?

Our inventory is a bit limited right now. What we have online is what we currently have available to order. Sizes are more limited than they normally are in our retail shops. Thanks for your understanding.

Why do I have to enter a pickup address for a pickup order?

As long as you select the Oakland, Albany or Castro Valley store at checkout, we will know where you plan to pick up. Unfortunately, the address fields are a required part of the checkout process with the system we use. However, don't worry! No matter what you put here, if you selected your store pickup, we will have all the info we need.


If I want my order shipped, when will it ship out?

We are currently shipping orders about 5-7 days after they are placed. Unforeseen carrier conditions may cause actual delivery dates to vary.

Do you ship internationally?

At this time we ship within the United States only. 

What shipping method do you use?

We primarily ship via USPS Priority Mail, which takes 1-3 business days after we ship. 

What if my house or apartment does not get delivery from USPS?

Please send us an email at info@oaktownspiceshop.com as soon as possible after placing your order.

Can I order by phone?

Yes! We can take orders by phone between 10am-5pm in Oakland and Albany. Our Castro Valley location is open daily 9am-7pm. You can also email us at info@oaktownspiceshop.com with any questions about placing an order online.

What if my order is a gift?

If your purchase is a gift, please write a note on the cart page where it says "add a gift note to your order." Your note will be printed on the packing slip, which does not include prices. (Please sign your note, as our packing slips do not include the sender's name!)


Do you offer special pricing for restaurants and foodservice customers?

We do! Please email us at orders@oaktownspiceshop.com for more information.

Can I return an item?

All online sales are final. But if your package arrives broken or you aren't completely satisfied, please email info@oaktownspiceshop.com and we will get right back to you.

How do I redeem my gift card?

Gift cards can be used on any item in our online shop. To use a gift card online, just enter your gift card code at checkout. You'll see an option to add "Discount code or gift card" beneath the order summary. If you don't use your whole gift card on one order, the remainder will be kept on the card for you to apply to your next order. 

What precautions are you taking to protect against COVID-19?

Our shops are now open to the public for sales at the front counter or front door only. We are currently not offering in-store shopping or browsing in an effort to help limit the spread of COVID-19. In addition, we have reinforced our existing training on effective handwashing and using personal protective equipment and we have increased our sanitation procedures in our shops and production areas.

Staff members are working at properly spaced workstations. Also, staff members who are sick will stay home from work. All of our staff members receive sick pay.
