Recipes often call for Harissa paste, a delicious condiment that can be made from scratch with whole spices, chiles and a few additional ingredients.
It's also super easy to transform our Harissa Powder into a paste by adding tomato paste, olive oil and lemon juice. Keep a little jar of Harissa Paste in your fridge for daubing on eggs, stirring into a grain bowl or spicing up a sauce for pasta.
Harissa Paste
2 tablespoons Harissa Powder
2 tablespoons tomato paste
2 tablespoons lemon juice
1 tablespoon olive oil
½ teaspoon salt
Whisk together all the ingredients. Store in a jar in the fridge topped with a little extra olive oil. Keeps for several weeks.

This cake is made with a variety of warming spices including cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, cardamom, and cloves. All of these spices create a flavor profile similar to chai, while enhancing the natural sweetness of the carrots, and bringing out the notes of caramel in the brown butter cream cheese frosting.
